Dian Hong black tea, also known as Yunnan black, is one of China’s most famous black teas. This Golden Tip Dian Hong has lots of orange pekoe along the dry leaves, and brews up with an absolutely lovely rich taste and aroma.

This hand-picked and manually-produced tea is made from the buds and leaves of the Yunnan large-leaf variety of tea trees. After picking, the leaves are meticulously processed by hand using the traditional “Gongfu” techniques, and are then fully oxidized.

Our Yunnan Dianhong teas come from the Lida Ecological Tea Garden, in the southwest of Mengyou Town in Fengqing at an elevation of around 1800 meters.

The soil here is fertile, with a high vegetation index; with over a hundred kilometers of ecological environment without any source of pollution, it is a famous and excellent place for producing Dianhong black tea.

Feeling the freshness of the fresh tea leaves.

An authentic Yunnan farmer, Mr. Zhou has been avidly contributing to the advancement of the tea business for over 20 years. A short chat with him revealed to us his passion and insistence for the traditional processes of crafting tea; he values the quality inside the tea, and his experience comes from spending most of his time along the tea mountains. Mr. Zhou is passionate about bringing out the natural essence of tea to share with tea lovers around the world, and he claims that the best environment for growing perfect tea is in Fengqing.

This Dian Hong black tea is produced in Fengqing, located south of Dianxi Longitudinal Valley. Fengqing is a country in the northwest of Lincang, one of the four famous pu-erh production areas (along with Xishuangbanna, Pu’er, and Baoshan), and is one of the original birthplaces of tea in the world. It is also famous for being the hometown of Yunnan black tea. Fengqing has a long history of planting, producing, and drinking tea, and contains a beautiful throng of mountains webbed with rivers.

This Dian Hong black tea is made from the Fengqing large-leaf subspecies of the Yunnan large-leaf. It propagates sexually and takes the form of an arbour tree, meaning that it can grow to over six meters tall. 1984, the Fengqing large-leaf species was certified by the Chinese government as a national grade.

It contains an abundance of tea polyphenols (30.2%) and catechins (13.4%), as well as 2.9% amino acids and 3.2% caffeine.

The best place based on natural environment to grow tea is in Fengqing, Yunnan, which is where Dian Hong black tea was first produced in the 1930s. The first batches were instantly popular and quickly exported through Hong Kong to England and other western countries, and nowadays Dian Hong is one of the most respected and best-known types of Chinese black tea. It is held with the highest regard in China, and is often presented by the government as gifts to visiting dignitaries.
